After struggling last season, the Griffons Women’s Basketball team opened up their home opener in an exhibition match against Peru State College.

The Griffons ended the game with a 108–43 win over Peru State.

They managed to score over 20 points in each quarter during the match Wednesday night, with the third and fourth scoring the highest after they scored 29 points in the two quarters.

Senior Corbyn Cunningham played 12 minutes and managed to gain 16 points for the Griffons after her first time in the starting line up in a little bit over a year. Cunningham also went 7–7 on field goals and 2–2 on free throws.

Sophomore Trinity Knapp followed closely behind with 11 points with one three-point field goal attempt and five two-point field goals made. Both freshman Alyssa Bonilla and sophomore Brionna Budgetts followed behind Knapp after both tieing with 10 after the three joined Cunningham into double figures.

Bonilla had two three-point field goals made and four two-points field goals made.

Budgetts followed up with five two-point field goals made.

After such a great start in the first preseason game out of two, Head Coach Candi Whitaker was able to allow all 15 players on the Griffons team to get a chance on the floor and rotate everyone throughout the game, with each player being able to play at least nine minutes.

The Griffons finished with 56.0% shooting from the floor, (47–84) and 77.8% from the free throw line, (7–9).

The Griffons did struggle with shooting from the arc, only hitting seven out of 25 shots attempted. They did manage to hold Peru State to 11–53 from the floor and 3–17 on shooting.

The Griffons are hosting a scrimmage game in the Fieldhouse against Livin’ The Dream with a 6:30 tipoff on Nov. 3.
